ARTIST STATEMENT
Mickael is an interdisciplinary artist working in music, movement, and reflective writing. Her artistic foundation is rooted in extensive professional and academic performance experience, beginning in childhood and continuing through higher education. Prior to college, she was first chair violinist in Orchestra and performed throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area as a member of the Kansas City Girls Choir, serving as Ms. KCGC, a leadership and representative role within the organization. She also competed in State-level choir festivals as a chorister and soloist. She modeled and was signed with Model Talent Group from the age of eleven.
Mickael earned a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Spelman College, where she was a member of the Spelman College Dance Theatre, creating choreographic works throughout her matriculation. She also simultaneously was a member of the Spelman College Glee Club and toured nationally during the annual Spring Glee Tour four years consecutively. Her performance experience includes but not limited to collaborations and sharing stages with artists such as Jennifer Holiday, Cassie Davis, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Stevie Wonder, and John Legend. She performed with Spelman Dance Theatre, T. Lang Dance company throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area and Art in Motion dance company in Kansas City.
Mickael has taught as a Dance Improvisation and Youth Modern Dance Teacher with City in Motion, modeled and walked runway for the West 18th Street Fashion Show, and recently performed individually as a vocal artist selected among the top 15 of 50 artists to perform at the finals of the 18th and Vine Arts Festival.
Her current work shifts away from performance-driven outcomes toward studio-based research focused on presence, embodiment, sound and creative regulation as pathways to authenticity.
